Thornton Township 2022 Assessment Notices Mailed

The Cook County Assessor’s office mailed 2022 property assessment notices on August 17th to Thornton Township property owners. The 33-day window to appeal your 2022 assessed value is now open until the deadline of September 19th. The following cities, towns, and villages are in Thornton Township: Blue Island (southern edge), Burnham, Calumet City, Dixmoor, Dolton, East Hazel Crest, Glenwood (northern 1/4), Harvey, Hazel Crest, Homewood (northeast half), Lansing (northern half), Markham (eastern 1/4), Phoenix, Posen, Riverdale, South Holland, and Thornton.

We recommend homeowners review their assessments annually and appeal whenever a strong evidence-based argument is that your property may not be assessed fairly. Thornton Township’s next triennial reassessment is scheduled for 2023. However, if you feel that your assessment is unfair, there is no need to wait; property owners have the right to appeal yearly at the Assessor’s office and the Board of Review. If you’d like a professional opinion on your home’s assessed value as it compares to similar properties in your neighborhood, contact us for a free, no-obligation review and analysis of your home.

Property values in the Chicagoland area do not stay the same every year. They frequently change as ownership changes, properties are remodeled, and new homes are constructed. Don’t make the mistake of only appealing during your property’s reassessment year.

If you contact us before the September 19th deadline, we would be happy to review your home’s assessment against the current values of nearby comparable properties and provide our professional opinion on whether or not an appeal makes sense this year.
